Lost my Drivers License - What do I need to do?

Anonymous
I have lost my drivers license and wondering what I need to do to protect from identity theft. What can someone do with my ID? Do I need to freeze my credit with each credit bureau? They don't have my SS#. I have canceled my credit cards.

It scares me to think my ID could be used. What can I do to prevent fraud with my DL?

For the future, Chase has a system on their app where you can lock your card from current use, but not cancel it. Did that recently when we misplaced a card, found it later and just unlocked it.

If it’s just your license, go online to your dmv and order another one - mark the first as lost. You can print a temp license and if your pic and signature is on file you will get a new one mailed fast. Marking the first one as lost helps deter ID theft, in theory.

Watch “Enemy of the State”. That will give you some indication of what is about to happen.

I mean, your credit should be frozen by default...but get a new DL.

If they don't have the social security number, should credit be frozen?

Whoever found it, may drop it into mailbox. You seem dramatic. Happens all the time.

Why would you cancel your credit cards if you lost your driver's license?

Don't sweat it. Not much anyone can do with it, and more than likely it won't even be found. Check where you might have lost it. Otherwise, just order a new one, or wait until you need to renew. I haven't used a DL in years.

LMAO! Good one! Remember when that movie came out was all like, "OMG Hollywood is about 10 years behind the times here!" Now look at how much spying has progressed! Now with A.I., it's really insane.
