Can one leave an ECNL club (3-months in) without making the last installment payment? Or do clubs usually require the last payment ($1k) even though the player is leaving early?
This might be different depending on the club, just wanted to get a general idea. |
| Depend. Most will make u pay unless you have a legit reason - moving away for job, medical reason etc |
Also depends if you are going to another club, or just leaving the sport. If the former, absolutely expect to pay in full. |
What about a pre ECNL team? Are the restrictions a little bit easier to leave? Asking for a friend?
|
| What if you don’t pay what’s the most they can do? |
I’ve heard they can hold your player card which prevents you from moving clubs. But if you’re paid up then I don’t think they can do that. |
I don’t think they can only hold it indefinitely? |
They can block you from playing for another club within the same system (USYS vs US Club) for the rest of the soccer season (so through May-ish), but that's about it. |
| U would just burn bridges with the club/ coach. U never know who u will be running into in the future so better not to burn bridges |
As mentioned, I think most clubs would block until end of spring next year (2025). I highly doubt they can block/hold your player pass indefinitely. |
| You signed a contract - you owe them that money unless you meet whatever exit criteria exists. |
Look like ECNL will block the player, too. Section 2.1, page 7: https://texasclubsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/2024-2025-ECNL-COMPETITION-RULES.pdf "Once registered, an ECNL Registered Player may only participate in 11v11 outdoor competitions with his/her ECNL Member Club for the duration of the ECNL Season (unless released pursuant to the ECNL transfer/release rules herein or otherwise as provided below in this section 2.11)....if an ECNL Registered Player plays in a US Soccer member sanctioned 11v11 outdoor competition for a different club besides the ECNL Club to which he/she is registered as an ECNL Registered Player after the date he/she became rostered as an ECNL Registered Player (“Multiple Club Rostering”), the eligibility of the ECNL Registered Player will be reviewed by the ECNL Commissioner. If it is determined by the ECNL Commissioner that the ECNL Club to which the ECNL Registered Player is registered was aware of the Multiple Club Rostering, the ECNL Commissioner may take any or all of the following actions, without limitation: (i) declare the ECNL Registered Player ineligible for the remainder of that ECNL Season; (ii) declare all games in which the ECNL Registered Player appeared on the ECNL Roster as forfeits by the ECNL Team on which such player was rostered; and / or (iii) recommend revocation of the ECNL Member Club’s membership in the ECNL. " |
| If it's that important to leave an ECNL team 3 months before May/June, whatever, just pay the fee for player card and leave. If they say they won't give you the player card anyway, then hell, just don't pay. At this point, you're essentially paying $1000 for the player card. If your child isn't going to another club, you don't need the card. |
