| My DC never looked at SLACs. They only wanted a school with a lot of school spirit and that usually came with being part of a D1 conference. Now that almost all the apps are in, I'm wondering I should have made them at least look at a smaller school. We have considered privates that are smaller than state schools, like Tulane, Miami & Syracuse and the acceptance rate of Duke makes it not worth it. Are there any smaller schools with this same feel? DC is not EDing anywhere, so there will be time to visit schools later after acceptances come in. |
| Wake Forest, 5500 students but slac size classes. ACC sports and tons of school spirit |

In short, no.

| West Point, Annapolis, and Air Force Academy all have lots of school sprit. And Army and Navy football are both undefeated and ranked in the top 25 this year. Army is ranked even higher than Michigan. Can't beat that. |
| Davidson? |
| Are there any colleges in the middle of the desert right on the beach near a tropical rainforest? |

Elon is small with D1 athletics.
But imo smaller schools tend to lose a lot. |
| Furman? |

While a huge fan of the Service Academies and they certainly have a ton of school spirit, I'm not sure I'd call them SLAC although USNWR seems to think so. They're kind of a category unto themselves, in my opinion. That said..... Go Army! Beat Navy! couldn't resist....and The Game is even in DC this year! |

It sounds like your kid knew what they wanted and applied accordingly. Why would you "make" them apply to a certain type of school? |
