My ds is swimming one 50m race so under a minute watching him swim. Would you go? It is a two hour meet and I am not sure when exactly his race is, 30 mins away. Am I horrible if I don't go? |
I think it’s fine to go and fine to skip. Your kid is going to be fine if you miss some of their sports events. |
I always ask my kid what they want -- if they want me there I go if at all possible. Mine is in early high school though and has done a ton of swim meets. So they usually don't care if I go and I just attend if I really want to see them swim that session or a particular race. |
Will one parent be there? What would you be doing instead? |
Working and then being home with dd. Dh is at work. I go to all games, but this is different in that it truly is under 1 minute of watching him for 3 hours total. |
Ask the kid. For some it's more important than the others. Maybe you can offer to drop off and pick up? That's what I often do. |
He's a senior and always drives himself. |
Don’t you usually have a sense of when he will swim? Go for that and then leave. |
50 free style is the 4th event. Depending on how many heats they have, you should be done after an hour or so. If he wants you to go then show up about 20 min after the meet starts and leave as soon as he swims.
|
I wouldn’t but my kid never cared about HS meets. Ask your kid if they want you to come. |
He’s a senior? Either is fine but I would go if I could swing it. I have an early high schooler and am feeling the beginning of the end of being able to go to these kinds of things to see him. |
There should be a heat sheet and a meet run sheet, and you should know down to the 15 minute interval when he will swim. Go for that and then leave.
Soon he will be gone ans you won’t have that option. |
30 minutes away? Many parents have driven much farther to watch their kid sit on a bench the entire game/match/competition.
Go. |
