Maret Waitlist

Anonymous
Anyone know what the real scoop is?

Do you know of anyone who ever get off the waitlist? What year, what grade?

Do they really waitlist everyone? My understanding had been that the waitlist is real ... but based on the Forum here makes me wonder have they always waitlisted half of Washington or is this a new practice?

There's entry in K. I understand that 1st and 4th is reserved for those those kids they just have to let in . What about the middle school years? Is there a chance for average J Doe to get in--are there certain feeder schools? same for high school - are there certain feeder schools? Looking at the exmission numbers and the number of k-8 schools in the area, of which almost all send at least one a year to Maret, made me wonder if Maret, GDS, and Sidwell are the Harvard, Princeton, and Yales for the K-8 valedvictorians.

Anyone know what kinds of kids (school, sports, ethnicity, talents, family) are getting in years post K?

I know a boy who got off the waitlist for a fourth grade spot this year.

There are at least 3 (out of 25) new freshmen this year who had been on the waitlist and now attend the school...

Meaning, e.g., siblings who were turned down the previous year? Is this generally understood to be the case?

My son got in off the wait list for 9th grade two years ago. Maret is absolutely fabulous and the faculty are incredibly caring and responsive to many kinds of children. You don't have to be an amazing athlete to make the teams and can augment the team experience by being in the musical during the same season. I can't imagine a more supportive or more welcoming school.

My understanding for Kindergarten is that they never go to the waitlist.
