Right now I am thinking of all the hurricane victims and the suffering of Americans down South, everyone must be thinking of this question- your home, heart, and possibly a family member gone.
Separate from this, where do you find meaning in your life? What is meaningful about it to you? |
Community. Community endures beyond individual suffering. Communal suffering means at least you aren’t alone. |

Love.
Love of parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, siblings, cousins, friends, spouse, ILs, kids, their spouses, grandkids. Love of friends and neighbors. Love of hobbies, education, work. Love of nature, history, art, literature, food, laughter, festivals, celebrations, get togethers, hospitality, travel. |
I don't think there's any meaning, necessarily. We are just here. We can find meaning or purpose for ourselves. For some, it's about how much money they can make. For others, it's about experiencing as much of the world as possible. For many, survival is so consuming that there's no time/energy left to think about what it means. |
The only thing that matters in life is how we treat others. |
Nothing. It's just drudgery and if you're lucky it ends without too much pain and suffering. |
No meaning, so I should try and maximize my happiness and the happiness of my husband and son, and minimize my negative impact on anyone else. |
Yep. “All you need is love. Love is all you need.” -Beatles |
Life is sort of like a game where you have to go through all these stages, learn, adapt, wrap your head around all the mind boggling stuff happening on the planet, and somehow try to enjoy yourself, learn to live better, and get wiser. I don't think the meaning is about seeking pleasure only, although that leads to procreation and survival which is part of the game, but if you don't think there is meaning you probably are missing something. |
