Jeff--
I've been learning about the Pakistan flood in a thread in Off-Topic, http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/123260.page . Would you consider putting a button or something on the home page (or any other page) to make it a tiny bit easier for DCUM posters to donate? Or put excerpts from that thread on the home page for folks who want to educate themselves a bit more? (Sort of like your green ribbon at the top of the website, which still makes me remember Iran?) Please let us know if you want help with this. |
Yes, I would do that. If you can find a charity that is active in the area, I can put a link directly to its website. I don't want to link to any government organizations and prefer to stay away from religious organizations unless their is no other choice. But, if you can recommend something within those parameters, I'd be happy to do it. |
Thank you so much! I've put a note in the original thread & hope the OP knows the best organization to donate to. If you don't get a response from her, I'll do a bit of digging myself. (Looks like Save the Children is active there, for example...) |
I nominate CARE: http://www.care.org/emergency/pakistan-floods-monsoon-disaster-relief-efforts/index.asp
They are not affiliated with any government or religion, they are on the ground already, they focus on health, shelter and clean water, and they are transparent about how their funds are used (and most go directly to services provided, very little to overhead or fundraising campaigns). |
I second CARE if what PP says is accurate. I am only a fan of charities where there is transparency and very little overhead goes to campaigns, salaries, etc. |
Keep the suggestions coming. CARE does sound good though. Have we heard from the OP of the other thread yet?

Hi Jeff, i'm the OP of the other post - this is a local "charity" working for pakistan... I wasn't going to suggest any one in particular, but this is run by a friend of a friend. again, please take this with a grain of salt - i can't find a website about them, but will contact the director to see if i can get that.
