When will these begin for the 25-26 school year?

Start here: Also, start following your inbound on instagram and any school within a 2-3 mile commute. DC does PK3 well. Do not over engineer it https://www.myschooldc.org/calendar

Lottery closes March 1st, in my experience they start taking place in January.

Go to DC EdFest in December, talk to schools you're interested in and get on their mailing lists for open houses.

But also learn before you go about DCPS wide standards - there's no need to ask each school how many times they go outside and what's the teacher to student ratio and how long the nap is - those are set and the same for all schools.

I highly recommend following your schools of interest on social media (Instagram seems the most common). Not all will have it and it’s not a knock against them but for those that do you can get a sense of their events and school culture.

I joined all of the Hill ones when we were looking. Very helpful in terms of getting to know the schools. I think the Chisholm & Ludlow ones are especially good:

@brentbears
@capitolhillclusterschoolpta / @peabodywatkins
@chisholmdcps
@jowilsoncardinals / @jowpta
@ltesconnects
@mauryelementary
@minerelementaryschool / @miner.pto
@paynedcps / @payneptsa

Nothing in this about how much the kids go outside.

I’d still ask if you care about these things. There is a minimum set by DCPS but some schools might do an extra short recess or have more flexibility for non-nappers. All schools will have a teacher and an aid but some schools might have enough ELL students to have an ELL teacher for part of the day (3 adults).

15 minutes once a day.

I went to open houses, and they all shared the same information regarding schedule and curriculum. The facilities are all great, and the teachers are nice. We only had a few schools on our list, almost all with a waitlist of 300+ kids—and we didn’t get into any of them. Stevens was our safety school, and we ended up with Stevens.
