2015 BMW I3

I see several on these on Carmax, Carfax. Why are they priced so low? It appears that they are still chargeable for the foreseeable future, unlike the Leaf, for example -- unless I'm missing something.

I have a 2021 i3s. The issue with a 2015 i3 is that it has a very small battery. Only 60 Ah which even knew only had a range of 80 miles or so. In 2017, the battery size was increased to 94 Ah and then in 2019 increased further to 120 Ah. Mine has the 120 Ah battery and has a range of just over 150 miles. That is still low but great for an around town car which is all we use it for. If you can get by with roughly 60 useable miles, a 2015 can be had practically free if you get the rebate.

The i3 is a great car with incredible technology. It has a carbon fiber body, an interior that still looks modern, and is really fun to drive. Every member of my family said it was ugly but after I got it I can hardly drive it because everyone else takes it first.

Here are issues to consider. The i3 has a non-standard tire size that is hard to find. There is basically one manufacturer and the tires are expensive. To make things worse, the tires wear out quickly. The older cars used 3g mobile data for their remote services. Since the US providers shut down their 3g networks, BMW can't offer remote services to those cars anymore. Whether that matters to you or not is up to you. It matters to me. The older cars use LTE or whatever and BMW just extended remote services free of charge for as long as they can provide it. The older cars also tended to have trouble with the air compressor that is used for the A/C and cooling the battery. You should check the CarFax and see if that has been replaced. Otherwise, consider an extended warranty because that is an expensive repair.
