lottery - blair/wheaton

Anonymous
My kid would love Blair or Wheaton and I know both are the most popular options. In the past I've heard that its really tough to lottery into Blair (people used to say not to waste your top spot on Blair). I also heard that if you don't put Wheaton #1 you won't get Wheaton either. So is it pretty risky to put Blair #1, making it super likely my kid would get their third choice? Or is it getting hard to lottery into Wheaton as well?

My sense is it's very hard to lottery into either Blair or Wheaton, and both are well over capacity.

What's your home school.

I wouldn't think of this as a lottery, by the way. I'd think of it as ranked choice voting. If you put your home school in the 1 or 2 slot, you will get it.

So, if you can live with your home school, I'd rank Wheaton first and put your home school second.

My kid would prefer not to go to his home school. Would much prefer Wheaton or Blair.

I would put his first choice first and his second choice second.

Put the one you most want first. Done. Stop overthinking. If you get it you get it, if you don't try moving to area of HS you want to go.

Could you be more flippant? Not everyone can pick up and move to a different area and it's not unreasonable for people to think through the best approach to ranking so as to help their kid get the schools they most want.

If you don't get your first or second choice, you can always try again in the second round.
