I know this a very specific question, but for those of you who have loved ones in assisted living and pay someone to cut their toenails, what do you pay? |
Nothing because a podiatrist goes every month to my mom's assisted living and medicare pays for it. I have no idea how they bill for it or under what code it gets classified.
Ask at the assisted living in a podiatrist visits monthly. My mom had no idea and she walked past a meeting room that had people sitting outside. She asked a friend what she was waiting for and her friend said to see the podiatrist to get my toenails cut. I followed up and called and they gave me the podiatrist's name. |
Medicare and Medicaid did not cover it for my MIL. |
Forgot to add that you have to have a medical condition to qualify, but I would think the majority of residents in assisted living would qualify. My mom is blind in one eye so that qualifies her to get her toenails cut. I think her friend has diabetes |
My mom’s is covered bc of her diabetes. Thank goodness. |
I also forgot to include that it is actually pretty dangerous to cut the toenails of elderly people who have any risk factors like diabetes because a small cut when trimming nails can result in infection and ultimately amputation.
So many people won't cut nails in assisted living places and many facilities won't allow non-medical personnel in to cut toenails due to the risk of injury, infection, and liability. |
We paid a podiatrist $70 to cut my moms nails. Sometimes the on-site salon has someone who will cut nails to include toes and they only charge $20-$30. |
My mom had diabetes and saw the podiatrist regularly in assisted living and memory care. It was covered by Medicare. |
Same here. |
Same. |
Same - Assisted Living resident w/Parkinson's gets toenails cut about 1x/month (it's actually a number of weeks, and I forget the number) and it's covered under medicare. (Straight Medicare A) |
Here is what Medicare will cover:
