Psych sheet vs. Meet sheet

We're new to swim meets. I downloaded the psych sheet for Saturday's PVS Open at Audrey Moore. My kid is on there in all the events we signed up for - check. But how do we know what heat we're in and what lane?

The psych sheet is just the seeding by event. The meet host will typically email the meet program and/or publish it on meet mobile the day or so before the meet. That will have the heat and lane assignments.

OP. Make sure to get Meet Mobile. It will let your kid write their events in sharpie on their arm before you go to the meet.

Heat. event. Lane.

Also event and lane are more important than heat. The lane timers will be able to sort them into the correct heat if he arrives at the wrong lane, but if they go to the wrong lane the timers won't know what to do with them unless one of them has an entire heat sheet.

The meet sheet or meet program is usually not distributed until a day or two before the meet or right before the meet, because when kids inevitably scratch events, the meet can be reseeded and empty lanes filled in, which can shorten the meet (that’s what we all want, right?).

As an admin official, I see that parents understandably want the lane and heat assignments as early as possible, but I like to wait until at least 10-15 min into warmups for non championship type meets so that coaches have time to compile scratches and relay changes. The worst case scenario is that we seed the meet early, then there are numerous changes and we have to reseed the whole thing. Then kids have the wrong info on their arms and there are incorrect meet programs floating around and we have to reprint programs for all the officials and coaches and it’s a huge waste of paper and ink.

For larger meets and champion meets, we can seed early and leave empty lanes for scratches.

AO again. Sometimes meet mobile is not always correct. i have been to meets where the AO uploads the heat sheets to meet mobile, then has to reseed the event for some reason, and then re-upload to meet mobile. If you look during the lag, you will have the wrong info. It’s rare, but I’ve seen it happen a few times. I don’t upload until I know it’s the final seed, but not all AO’s do that. There’s only so much room on their little forearms for all those events!

Kids have swam for years, I still have no idea why they refer to it as a "psych sheet".

I grew up a track athlete. Its called a "start list" or "performance list" or "entry list". Or just "entries".

The top competitors get themselves “psych”ed up when they see who the competition is.
