Got an mcps letter today encouraging my 8th grader to apply to the ib program here. I didn't know they had an application based ib program...is it new?
He hasnt received any other mailings encouraging applications to any other programs. |

I think it’s newish? Springbrook is the regional IB program site for high schools in the North Eastern County (NEC) Consortium.
I believe it was established as a Regional IB program in 2019 or 2020 along with Kennedy, which is the Regional IB site for the DCC. |

I came to ask the same thing. My child received a letter encouraging them to apply. I want to know the pros and cons. I also want to know logistics of how you get there from your homeschool if you don’t have transportation.
To the pp, I believe the IB program has been at Springbrook since 1996. |
| I wonder how many kids were encouraged to apply? |
Although IB has been at Springbrook for decades, the regional application-based cohort program only started in 2020-2021. There are regional buses, similar to other magnet programs: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/siteassets/district/departments/transportation/busroutes/04798mbus.pdf My children considered it, but ultimately decided on other programs. We have friends there who give it positive reviews. Definitely worth attending the open house and learning more about it if IB or a cohort magnet program sounds appealing. |
Thank you for the link, the clarification on dates and the feedback. |
