I first heard this story on TV. My first thought - pay back. Pay back for a Republican who unseated a Dem. supported by Obama in NJ.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/244814/how-vindictive-administration-daniel-foster I am sure this issue will be another one the admin. wishes it could take back. Watch the prop on the lectern. Seriously 1000 pages and disqualified by a mistake on ONE? |
You republicans have the biggest persecution complex going in the American political scene.
A. The governor screwed this up. He trashed the original committee output, negotiated by his own education secretary, and when his office put together their own application, they made the mistake. They rewrote it over a three day weekend. A bid for $400 million dollars was re-writtend over a three.day.weekend. Morons. B. This is a competitive award. There are thirty-plus other states that aren't making the cut. If New Jersey thinks it should get special help, they should talk to the other states that lost out. Should they just take the money back from Ohio? C. They would have had enough points, but the re-written plan lost a lot of points because the teachers don't back it. The mistake wouldn't even have mattered if Christie would put up a plan the teachers agreed to. D. Christie's account of what happened is untrue. They were asked to correct the error a number of times and they did not. Open foot, insert mouth. Here is the videotape: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/08/race_to_the_top_presentation_v.html E. There is plenty of money available to New Jersey education. They can get their share of $10 billion in funding for teacher salaries signed into law by Obama on August 10. Republicans like to talk about how blacks are always whining about racism. You guys lose one election, and you are shrieking like someone put you on the rack. It's really embarrassing. Stop the whining already. |
What election? Last I looked Christie had an R behind him? Not at all clear what point E. means. |
Uh, the November 2008 national election. Remember that? |
Point E is that since Obama was elected, Republicans are running around whining about how everyone is out to get them, all the time. In this case, New Jersey screws up because the governor screws up a bid for a competitive award, and somehow Obama has engineered it.
I'm glad they posted the video. Christie has to eat crow now. |
Wow! Thanks for posting that link. |
Hello OP, any comment about the video? |
This story is getting more interesting by the day. Just to review, New Jersey lost out on $400 million in Race to the Top funds because of an error in the State's application. Then NJ Governor Chris Christie blamed the Obama Administration for not allowing the State to fix the error. The Department of Education then released a video showing that DOE officials pointed out the error to the NJ delegation and the NJ delegation was unable to fix it -- proving Christie was wrong.
The new develops are that Christie asked for the resignation of Bret Schundler, the NJ official responsible for the error. Christie said that Schunder had misinformed him about what happened and that's why Christie had wrongly blamed the Obama administration. Schunder then refused to resign, preferring to be fired so that he could collect unemployment benefits. After being fired, he released emails to the press showing that he had accurately informed Christie about the events. So, clearly Christie's attempt to blame Obama for his state's screw-up is back-firing in a big way. What's more, it doesn't look like this is going to end soon. i assume that the OP of this thread has long ago regretted posting about the matter. |
That's hilarious. Thanks for the recap. I hadn't followed this much at all. |
