Schools in Weather Disaster Areas

Anyone with a child in a far away area with frequent weather disasters requiring evacuation? Just curious how as a parent you help them manage, especially if they are a freshman and don’t have a car that they can easily drive to get out of harms way or you the parent go get them. I imagine it’s quite expensive booking high demand short notice flights or just coordinating an evacuation. How helpful are the colleges emergency planning services with this? And least of worries but that’s quite a few cancelled day of classes.

I live in a Hurricane-prone area. Standardized test cancellations and disrupted athletics are a concern

But there are lots of people who have it a lot worse. Imagine losing all your stuff.

Losing your house and getting kilt are bigger concerns.

During covid, some colleges closed and gave students a couple days to clear out of the dorms. Yes, it's expensive if getting home requires flying. You shouldn't be driving into a hurricane, you need to plan ahead to know how you'll be getting them out.
