| DD was hoping to make a top level team for her FCYBL but tryouts were last week and we still haven't heard anything one way or the other. Should we assume she didn't make the team? Or do they notify after all teams have formed? This makes less sense to me. |

I recall getting a call and having a few days to say yes/no. There was always a little shuffling if kids were waiting for multiple offers.
I would not hesitate to reach out to the organization though. |
| Most organizations have 3 tryouts. Are you positive all tryouts have been completed? Usually coaches send early invitations to the top players and later to fringed players. |
| We just went through this. Got an offer for a division 3 team three days after the last tryout, with a very quick turnaround to make a decision. DC's friend got an offer for the division 1 team right after the first tryout. Not sure what kind of decision window the friend got. Probably longer as they are really good. I would reach out if it's been 5-7 days. But I would not assume a top team offer if you haven't heard anything yet. In DC's primary sport, they've gotten offers for the top level team either the night of or day after the first tryout. They want to lock in top players early. |
| Most places have three tryouts. Are there tryouts this week? |
So your kid was not originally selected for the d3 team, several kids turned down the spots until they got to your kid. Just fyi as far as playtime. |
That's fine. DC went into it knowing they might not make a team at all. Missing the last tryout did not help. We know a few of the kids who got offers for the same team and DC is on par with them. This will be a motivator and a good way to gauge whether basketball is something they want to spend more time on, or go back to house and free up more time to train in the primary sport. |
THIS... don't miss the last tryout because final teams are often decided on the last day (and yes the favorites are usually selected on the first day) and/or coaches decide who will be placed in D1 vs D2 or D3. DS and several of his friends all missed the last day of tryouts in past few years and none made the teams until the next year when they attended all 3 days. |

OP, tryouts are starting this week for many FCYBL teams so your DD still has the chance to make a team. Each team can request 2 zipcode exceptions so even if she didn't make your competitive zipcode team, she can switch to another area team. From reading past threads, I see that some FCYBL teams have trouble getting enough qualified players to form Girls teams. If your DD is interested in competing at a higher level, it is definitely worth seeking other options (and you can decline later if she doesn't like the coach or commute).

| I would assume your child did not make the team. You may get lucky and get the last spot if enough people decline their spots. |
| Why don't they send rejection emails? It's frustrating for kids to not know. |
Our coach always sends them, but it takes awhile because kids are slow to register-sometimes they are stalling waiting for a better offer, sometimes just procrastinating. You can't send rejection emails out until 10 kids have signed up and paid. Most places are still finishing up tryouts. I wouldn't expect a rejection letter until at least a week from the last tryout. |
We got a cut email last year telling my child to not come to the third tryout. We also received letters shortly after saying he did not make the team. I’m assuming if you don’t have a rejection, team is not complete yet and your child is on the border. |
| OP, you might not even be border line. I'm an assistant coach, so I know my kid is on the team along with every other kid on the team. We haven't sent out anything because our club has to verify that everyone on the roster is registered. That should be fast, but we're still waiting on it |
This was a good reminder not to put off registration once that email came through. I hadn't considered that others would be kept waiting by us not getting around to that for a few days. Makes sense. |
