Shower arm length for standard fixed showerhead (not rain)

Anonymous
Are there any pros to getting a longer shower arm, like 6" or 8" rather than the standard 4", for a regular fixed wall mount shower head? I haven't been able to find anything about the pros and cons. Maybe 6" could help avoid water getting into the niche behind the controls and keep it out of my face when I'm shaving my legs? Or does it have something to do with height of the user? We're doing a rectangular walk-in shower.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I can only reach out to the seller's customer service so many times...

Ok it seems like a lot of "luxury" brands (like Watermark on the Rejuvenation side) use 6" as their standard, so I was wondering if I was missing something. Maybe it looks better but doesn't add much function.
