Pick-up soccer

My 14-year-old DS is new to travel this year. His team practices 3 days a week but he would like to play more than that. He doesn't like to just kick the ball around by himself but would gladly kick around all day every day with any takers. We're in Annandale, and I've struck out trying to find an organized program close enough to us to be sustainable (Future Elitez is too far until they get into futsal season, he's aged out of Pozez JCC, St. James doesn't have anything for his age group right now). Any ideas for some place I haven't thought of or a place where he could just play pick-up with others who show up?

Check with his teammates and other teams in the club about a self run practice on off days.

You can't find any pickup games in parks in *Annandale*?

The myth of pickup soccer strikes again….

Pickup soccer is helpful up until a certain point, then the focus has to change. At 14 your son has at best 1 year where pickup soccer could help his development. But at 14 there is real possibility of bad habits that are harmful for the 15-17 push.

Development is a marathon, until it one day becomes a sprint. And 14/15 is the starting point of the sprint for boys.

I live in that area and I would see people all summer at the track at Annandale High School. If it wasn’t being used for a scheduled activity people were playing soccer. That is the busiest public school track I have ever seen in the area. Also, Ossian Hall Park, Mason District and Pinecrest have people playing there but it is going take a few visits to figure out with his age. He might be able to organize a group talking with his club team friends.

It’s not nonsense if you are aiming higher than Sunday League.
