Pay for high school and middle school coaches?

Anonymous
What do high school and middle school coaches make in Montgomery County? Do high school coaches get paid more than middle school coaches? Do higher profile sports like football, basketball and baseball pay more for coaches? Do the coaches need to work in the school system in some way, in order to be able to coach?

Growing up a long time ago, It never crossed my mind that the sport coaches were getting paid - or at least not a lot.

All stipend contracts are listed in the MCEA contract. So are the stipends for non-athletic positions. Take a look at the contract. These stipends are much lower than what people can get coaching outside of the school system.

According to the MCEA contract, a boys Varsity basketball coach makes $5,814 or $484/week, or $96/day based on a 3 month season.

And before that pay itself is divided up to pay for an extra assistant if need be. My husband is a HS Varsity football coach and the offensive coordinator … I think his stipend after all is said and done is under 2k, which does NOT pay for his time at all. These people really do it for the love of coaching

Me again - and yes, football is one of the higher earning ones. Girls JV softball for example, wouldn’t hold a candle to that stipend
