MCPS’s failed electric bus contract, the subject of an Office of Inspector General (OIG) report detailing its “wasteful spending,” is more than just a government procurement gone wrong. It was spawned in a bubbling swamp of criminality, one that produced two guilty pleas. And despite its seamy origins, MCPS plans on renegotiating and renewing it possibly as early as this month.

| Your funny if you think Taylor will fix anything. He's been clear he's not getting involved in anything in the past and hasn't shown any interest in doing much to fix things as of yet. |
Adam has another post on the EV contract: https://montgomeryperspective.com/2024/10/07/more-on-mcpss-electric-bus-debacle/
I agree McKnight oversaw a boondoggle, but I don't get why Adam is letting Essie McGuire off the hook. She was Associate Superintendent and she sold the deal in to the BOE. She is now Taylor's chief of staff. Taylor's hands aren't clean so long as she's his chief of staff. |
Seems like McGuire was just following orders from McKnight. |
So McGuire doesn't have a mind of her own? And given her previous roles, she had a lot of relevant expertise that should've had her whistleblowing if she felt McKnight and her cronies were doing something untoward. |
How do you know she didn't? She left MCPS not too long after this. |
She certainly didn't clue in the OIG of the negotiations that Dana Edwards and District Operations are in with HET RIGHT NOW. Nor did she summon the Office of the General Counsel, who like Essie, was in the MCPS mix during the original contract's development, to come and explain the legal oversight failings. Again, Essie is in the mix AS WE SPEAK and she's still letting shenanigans go on. There's no way Essie's hands are clean then or now. She literally presented the original proposal to the BOE. And she's been installed as chief of staff at MCPS since July. This contract was under scrutiny while she was an analyst for the Council. You can't be this naive. |
| The BOE is running MCPS, not Taylor. He's their puppet. They do all the hiring. They should be held accountable for all this. |
| Seems like they're paying a premium to be on the bleeding edge. I'd like an electric car too but also understand that it just wasn't cost-effective at least when I was last int he market for a car. |
Others here claim the BOE is just a rubber stamp for the super. Which is it? |
They may have been in the past but he’s a puppet. |
Yes, this all seems like McKnight was so invested about getting glowing media coverage about being the first school system to do this, that she rammed it through without due diligence. |
She was not alone. I recall Lynne Harris positively beaming about this because she's all about the environment. |
So now it’s all McKnight and the folks that should have been advising or speaking up are off the hook? And the GC doesn’t catch it for not putting in adequate protections for failed delivery. |
