36% of Bowdoin students are recruited athletes. I assume all the recruited athletes got admitted through ED round.
For an unhooked applicant, ED does not appear advantageous. Is this true? |

DS was admitted RD. However, he demonstrated strong interest -- 2 campus visits (one during the summer, one during the school year), student "interview", responded to the video question prompt, wrote thank you notes to his admission officer and student. Also note that he applied during the tail end of COVID, so I don't know what the EDI and recruitment %% was like compared to now. Good luck -- it is a great school

Amherst and Williams are a downright disadvantage. Bowdoin I would call it relatively even, though probably slightly better chance of being deferred ED and then getting in. Chances of ED at the Chicagos and Dartmouths of the world are actually higher. |
| We were just at an info session and the admission officer said there is no advantage to ED. |
Which Bowdoin says they don’t care about… |
Bowdoin does actually track interest. |
Bowdoin does consider interest according to CDS and our CCO. |
|
OF course
|
Don't do it |
| Some schools can assume interest if they don't have yield problems. If you are applying RD, your EDs didn't pan out right? |
Or you can’t afford to ED? |
Definitely for the 249 track athletes. https://ope.ed.gov/athletics/#/institution/details |
And everyone else. Bowdoin is the origin of the quote “if it comes down to two applicants, we’re going to pick the one who toured every time.” |
Yes, but how fast did they tour? What was their time? |
That's interesting since the Director of Admissions stated they don't track interest, in the info session. Also Bowdoin slashed their ED admit rate last year. Historically around 30%, last year 17%. Guarantee that 17% included few to no unhooked kids. |
