My son is pretty new to basketball but wants to play on a rec team. I see that there is a rec league for Montgomery County. We live in Bethesda. Is that a good option? What are other options? He can dribble and shoot and knows basic rules but has not played on a team before. Is it already too late for him to learn this sport?

Never too late to go out and have fun. Close friend didn't start playing until high school, and played D1 with a scholarship. MoCo should have received level signups available.

Moco rec teams are organized and coached by parents/volunteers — it may be the most fun for him if he can find a team to join w some friends or classmates. Maybe email the school listserv to see if there is an existing team he can join? Worst case he can register as a “few agent” and he will be assigned a team after the registration period closes.
