Language Immersion Summer 2025

Anonymous
Want to send DS 14 to a really cool and safe language immersion program. Thinking of something residential so he could be with other teens.

He loves learning languages and has so far tried Italian, Spanish, French while studying Latin at school.

We would be interested in having him travel abroad for a good fit. We would like to follow it up each summer through high school, which he starts next year.

If you can recommend a program, please do.

Thank you!

I realize that the College Confidential thread above mentions Concordia, but I'll mention it again in case you're interested in a US-based program.

My son did 4-week Mandarin immersion for HS credit summer 2024 at Concordia as a rising sophomore. He had a wonderful time, and we're planning for him to go again summer 2025. Then very likely he'll go to China or Taiwan for summer 2026.

Concordia Language program is awesome, and is a partner with Startalk so you can now get free HS credit for Russian and Chinese (must apply). They have tons of language options from 1,2,3, and 4 weeks.

I’ve only enrolled my kid in the day camp option, but Enforex camp in Spain seems to be well run and offers a sleepaway option. They have multiple locations. My kid was in a day camp option for 3 weeks in 2024. Liked the food, made friends, wants to go back.

Concordia is great. I did the 4-week Japanese program for 2 years (one session the first summer, two sessions the second), never having studied before, and learned enough to go into a second-year Japanese course in college. I wound up majoring in East Asian Studies and did my junior year abroad in Japan, plus a year after college, and could have worked there longer had I not chosen to come back and go to law school.

My sibling did the French Voyageur program and loved it.

Also agree that Concordia is great. We've attended the German village. Both family weeks and solo weeks for DD. It's fun and the most bang for our buck in terms of language acquisition.

Another rec for Concordia and STARtalk. Really beneficial for DC

Not a residential camp but a great option for conversational Spanish French and Mandarin is Study Break in McLean. They offer programs during school year and short daily sessions during the summer which is great for my son with other commitments. DS is also going to start SAT prep there in the afternoon after French which is convenient.
