My kids are snugglers and love to be carried. I stopped with my older two when they were probably around 5 because they were too heavy. I wasn’t carrying them far but if need be I would carry them upstairs when they fell asleep or were tired and needed to be carried to the car.
My youngest is 4 and loves me carrying him. But I need to stop. He is killing my body. He is 52 pounds and as long as a 7 year old. I feel bad because he is the baby and a big mamas boy. Do I just quit cold turkey? Or talk to him about it? |
My daughter is almost 8 and is about 45 lbs and 49 inches tall.
We stopped regularly carrying her probably around 5 or so. Once in a great while I’ll pick her up if she’s very upset about something. But generally she’s too heavy and tall. |
45 lbs / 5 for the same reason (too heavy and killing my back). I didn't have a talk, but when they reached up, I hugged them and then asked them to walk as I wasn't strong enough to keep picking them up. I also added some extra cuddles. |
Whenever they weigh too much. |
For the older ones whenever I had to carry their younger sibling around all the time (though the number of times I have been wearing an older infant on my back and carrying a toddler is substantial).
For the youngest when it became uncomfortable and also when they really needed to be developing their own strength. But I still pick all but the one who is bigger than me up on occasion because they think it's fun and that snaps them out of a bad mood. That'll stop or they'll get bigger than me soon enough. |
Around 55 pounds/48 inches, which was around 5 years old. |
I still carry my 5 year old, but rarely. It kills my back. DH does it more and it really kills his. She doesn’t get that she’s not so small anymore, and I kinda love it. But at the same time…usually tell her that I can’t (or not for very long)! |
I probably stopped regularly carrying them around 5. Occasionally, I’d carry them up until 7 if they fell asleep and I needed to move them or they hurt themselves. |
My 9 year old is 52 lbs and as long as a 7 year old. She loves to be carried and she's my youngest so I indulge her - in private, not public. |
I'll still carry my 53 inch, 54 pound eight year old sometimes, but if it was hurting I'd probably stop. |
My 8 yo is 60 lbs and i still carry her. I'm 5'2" lol |
3yo at the oldest - maybe 2! once they were walking my 3 kids did not want to be carried so this was only if the fell asleep or some other circumstance
|
Honestly, about 2 1/2. When they could walk reliably. No reason to carry an able bodied child. If it’s too long of a walk, you bring a stroller. Independence is good for kids.
If they want to cuddle, we do so sitting down. |
Don't let them throw your back out. That won't make you a good mother. Hold hands walking and cuddle when sitting. |
Carry her where? It seems odd to be carrying a second grader. |
