What's a spooky/creepy place driving distance from DC?

Anonymous
DD is totally into scary stuff and I'm considering doing a mom/daughter day somewhere in the area. No more than 90 min drive each way - not looking for haunted houses/trails for Halloween - I'm looking for interesting places to visit that may be of some creepy/scary sort and during the day. Like Gettysburg tour or something but other options off the beaten path would be great to know about if at all? I remember years ago going to Gettysburg and I just felt the hairs on my neck rise - I swear the entire ambiance during the day felt like ghosts everywhere.

Harpers Ferry. So many abandoned houses.

Definitely Harpers Ferry. There are ghost walking tours there if you want something guided.

Not as spooky, but downtown Leesburg is offering ghost tours through the Loudoun Museum later this month.

Ok—this trip is father and involves an overnight stay but it is an awesome trip for anyone who enjoys creepiness.

Go here for the ghost tour:

Stay at this place 20 minutes away:

There’s a plantation in Southern Maryland that pops up on here from time to time when people are sharing scary paranormal experiences. I can’t remember the name, but it’s a wedding venue as well.

Ellicott City has always struck me as kind of creepy. Also Burkittsville, land of the Blair Witch.

Yep. This.

It’s literally just a small bridge. What are they supposed to do there for the day.
