Save dd's princess cake!

Dd made a Princess cake (the Swedish cake covered in marzipan) Her marzipan is all bumpy. Any ideas as to how to make it look better? We could try to smooth, maybe try to indent all over like a cushion and add sugar pearls...Any ideas of what could work? She topped the cake with a flower and a bee on top of the flower and that part is adorable.

I have never tried this with marzipan, but have had great success blow-drying icing on a cake to warm it enough to where it smooths easily. Again, no idea if this will work with marzipan but it does with ganache and buttercream frostings.

I like PP's heat idea for smoothing. That's what they did on Cake Boss.

Besides that just add decorations and piping. How old is DD? Cake doesn't need to be perfect!!!

If it does, peel off the marzipan (which is not pleasant to a lot of people!) and spread on a really thick homemade buttercream and re-decorate.

If the bumps are small, dust all over with confectioner’s sugar.

Sounds delicious! I would not mind if bumpy but your pearl idea sounds pretty (you could also dot in buttercream and make it a polka dot princess cake). Or maybe make marsmapw fondant and then put little flowers to cover all the wonky parts?

We ended up carefully smoothing a bit and dusting. The cake was really delicious even though it didn't look perfect. Everyone raved about it!

My husband made one of these recently. It was delicious, but it did not look like the ones on Bake Off.

PP here — I’m glad it worked out for you and your dd!
