Never been to LA — where to stay w/ 2 teens?

Anonymous
I am traveling to LA for 4 days in November with my two teenage daughters. We’ve never been to LA before and I would love recommendations. They are interested in enjoying a pool, seeing the beach, going shopping, and maybe spotting some celebrities

What is a central safe neighborhood for us to stay in? Hotel recs welcome.

Thank you!

I recently stayed at the Andaz in West Hollywood. It had a cool rooftop pool (a couple of episodes of Vanderpump were filmed there!) and is nextdoor to the Comedy Cellar so there is a lot of foot traffic. I walked everywhere which I learned is not really a thing there but it was fine lol.

Had a great time in Santa Monica (as a base area) with my teenagers a few years back.

Love the Beverly Hilton although not near the beach.

Go to the last bookstore! They will ship for you

I like Santa Monica. Go to Gladstones and then walk on the beach. Go to The Grove, Japantown, La Brea Tar Pits.

West Hollywood!

NOT by the Hollywood walk of fame. Hollywood Blvd is loud all night! Kept us up when we stayed at the Roosevelt.

The WB tour is fantastic! My teens loved that, going to Rodeo Drive and dinner at Craigs (lots of Celeb sightings). We did one day in Santa Monica/Venice beaches and toured UCLA.

Another vote for Santa Monica. We love Shutters on the Beach.

+1 My teens loved the Santa Monica pier (kind of kitschy), biking along the beach, and shopping in Abbot Kinney. They also really enjoyed the Universal tour and amusement park.

Op here, thank you! I initially booked in Santa Monica and then recent reviews said the area felt seedy. So now I’m not sure what to do 😆 I will look at Andaz and at the WB tour, too, thank you!

We stayed in Santa Monica for a night a year ago... the beach was nice, shopping fun but the pier was VERY seedy at night.

We stayed in an Airbnb in Palisades.

Problem with staying in Santa Monica is the driving time to get inland for non-beach stuff. I might look at Westwood or Century City- pretty much in the middle of the most popular touristy places.

Is the Fairmont Santa Monica seedy now? Going there in Jan with my son.

What do people mean by seedy? Is it not where you can celeb gazes anymore? Forgot the place that was famous for this.
