AP French Literature in MCPS

Anonymous
So we know from another post: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1224529.page#28218797

that upper level French courses are combined due to language teacher shortages or not enough demand to have a separate class for each upper level French class.

What about AP French Literature? Do ANY MCP HS offer this course? Is there not enough demand? Can a student take AP French Lit online and receive credit for it? AP Spanish Literature is offered at Blair HS and possibly at other MCP HSs.

AP French Lit (where they used to read Voltaire, Moliere, et al.) has been discontinued for a long time: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses

Even if they brought it back, I don't think it'll even last for at least one school year. The last time the exam was taken, only around 2,000 students took it.

It doesn't exist. Otherwise, my kid would have jumped at the chance.

It's strange how you're able to cite other DCUM posts, but cannot go on the College Board website and see which courses and exams are offered.

It definitely does not exist in MCPS. Its been at least a decade.

Did they actually have that many students who registered for the course or took an AP French Lit exam? By that many, at least 50+ across all MCPHS?

What kind of question is this? I am a parent whose kids took French at Whitman. I was told by a French teacher that the AP in Lit had been phased out. That's all I know. Its a terrible reflection on MCPS and the people who live there.

AP French Literature was phased out by the college board fifteen years ago, not by MCPS.

So all you want to do is bash MCPS without doing your research? How many times do we have to tell you that it's a College Board decision and not an MCPS decision? Do you even understand that the College Board is a private company that administers AP exams and controls AP course content? That none of this is the purview of any high school, public or private?

Uhm... the College Board stopped offering it. I doubt MCPS told the College Board to phase it out. You can stop clutching your pearls.

I was TOLD by a BCC French teacher that it was an MCPS decision. So sue me.

So the teacher was mistaken.
