Are Blake HS parents sending their kids to school tomorrow?

Anonymous
Earlier this evening I heard about threats of a shooting tomorrow from my HSer and later received the letter below.

JAMES HUBERT BLAKE HIGH SCHOOL
A Signature School for the Fine Arts and Humanities

Subject Line: Important Message From Blake High School Administration

Dear James Hubert Blake Community Members,

I am writing to inform you that late this evening, October 1, 2024, a threat of harm was found written on a desk in a classroom. It was also reported to school administrators by concerned students after a picture of the written threat was shared on social media. The message was written to indicate “there would be a shooting” and it was directed at an individual student; the message was unsigned.

We take incidents like this very seriously, as the safety of our students, staff and visitors at James Hubert Blake High School is our first priority. As such, we immediately reported this incident to the Montgomery County Police Department and we are collaborating with them as we investigate the threat.

Out of an abundance of caution, we will have enhanced security at our school, both from Montgomery County Police and our school system security resources, throughout the day tomorrow as we continue to investigate and determine the veracity of this written threat. We want to thank the students who came forth and reported this incident. As always, we expect that students and community members report incidents or issues immediately that could impact school safety.

We will address this concerning information with any student, staff member or family wishing to discuss this and you need only to call the school office at 240-740-1400 or email at shanay_a_snead@mcpsmd.org. I will follow up with additional messaging as more information from our investigation is available.
Sincerely,
Shanay Snead
Principal

I’m nervous about it. Not sure yet what we will do.

Not a chance I would if we were at that school.

I am. Just another consequence of no discipline.

Would you if it was a white school?
Anonymous
I would expect no matter what the school says, a significant portion of students and staff will not be at school tomorrow.

We aren't at a "white" school but I don't care what school it is, hard no.

Crossing my fingers and praying for the kids and families at Blake in case this turns out really bad.

Way too many real shootings to send your kid

As a student there, I’m here but I’m nervous and scared to be here.

Any indication how long the threat was there before someone noticed?

Dropped my kid off, but stressed about it. Security was checking IDs at the door, and a police car had just arrived.

Has anyone published a study on the correlation between specific threats of a shooting, and actual shootings?

I don't recall news stories staying "there was a shooting today, just a day after an anonymous threat".

The planning notes and postings are revealed after the shootings.

And my kid is texting me that classes are less than half full and pretty much nothing is happening in class.
