Daughter was starting to take her diaper off at night and make a mess... so when we started putting pull ups on her during the day (working on potty training at daycare and encouraging it at home - though not being hardcore about it since we have a newborn in the house and don't have the energy now), we put them on her at night too. We thought it was great because she couldn't take them off like she did her diapers...
Wrong. Last night she took off her pj pants AND her pull up and we looked in on her before we went to bed and found her in a puddle of pee. What do we do to get around this?? She is just determined to get that thing off! |
AHHHH My DD does this too.... I can't wait to see everyone's answers!!!!!!!!!
I've heard duct tape recommended. I guess if she can slip it off without undoing it, duct tape might not work (b/c obv you don't tape it TO the baby, just around the diaper). I've also heard putting one peice jammies on backwards (snaps in the back).
How old/big is she? My dd (who is on the small side) went through this when she was around 2 and we put on a onesie underneath her pajamas.
We used the zippered footed pjs, put on backwards, safety pinned through the zipper so it was impossible to open. For summer we just cut off the arms and legs of the footed sleepers. My DC is special needs and quite the contortionist.
OP here - she'll be two next month and is 80-90s for her height/weight... onesies would be PERFECT but I don't know where to get onesies in her size!
agree with previous posters about the backwards pjs. I once nannied for a 2 year old who was also having disapearing diaper incidents. Usually with poop, yes loads of fun. Anyhow, this worked. Be warned, most 2 years olds will scream and holler bloody murder once they realize yanking off the diaper or pull-up is no longer an option.
duct tape...I'm not kidding.

<<tongue inserted firmly in cheek>> Staples.
<<more seriously>> I bet duct tape would work. Just keep a pair of scissors handy (but out of kid reach) to cut him/her out in the morning. we have a different problem - lately my daughter has been peeing so much that her diapers are practically dripping in the morning, they're so full. I will change her asleep if she's wet before I go to bed, but sometimes even when I do, she's soaked in the morning. She doesn't drink much liquid in the couple hours before bed - usually 4 oz of milk. I'm tempted to try double-layering diapers. |
I have known families to double up on diapers-expensive yes, but it does cut down on the mess and frustration as you try to get out of the house in the morning.
