Silicone vs Glass Bottles

Anonymous
What brands are new moms using? I am thinking of buying Philips Avent glass natural with silicone sleeve, Chicco dual hybrid invinci-glass inside and Boon Nursh silicone pouch. Does anyone have other recs or feedback on these?

No recommendations on those specifically. I understand the desire to go glass. However, if you send your kid to daycare they will probably require plastic bottles. If you are staying home with them or hiring a nanny, then it’s totally your choice.

We used glass - Philips Avent - for 3 babies. No issues. We had some silicone sleeves but tbh never used them. One thing to know about silicone is you can't heat the milk in the bottle because the silicone doesn't conduct heat. So we had comotomo bottles that went basically unused.

We have Comotomo bottles and we sit them in a boiling water bath from the tea kettle for 10 minutes. Heats up fine. We’ve been doing this for almost 2 years with our current toddler and did it with our first child as well. Will do the same with our third.

I hate Comotomo they take forever to warm in a mug of warm water. The lines are hard to read and most feeding specialists despise them.

We use Dr browns glass and pigeon glass. Although we switched to gulicola because pigeon had reports of lead in the design/print on the bottle. TBH same with Dr Browns but it's the only bottle my baby doesn't gulp down.

Yes if sending to daycare you can't use glass bottles there..

The silicone sleeves can retain water in the bottom ring - sometimes warm or hot water can remain and then when you tip it down it spills. Also a pain to get on/off personally.

Used Philips Avent glass for years and really liked them. I vote never getting started with warming bottles. You’ll thank me later.

Not PP, but my second drank cold breast milk straight from the fridge (I was an exclusive pumper). You just have to be sure to mix it in the bag before you pour it since the fat will separate. It made life so much easier!

Yes, I was warned to not heat bottles at the start. If babies take it fine cold or room temperature, life is soooo much easier. If they refuse, then you may need to experiment with warming.

OP - Yes was planning on skipping warming to make life easier.

I have toured one daycare that will allow glass with silicone sleeve, but suggested Boon Nursh so curious about others experiences.

I did Dr browns parts with some cheap brand glass bottles. Never used the protectors but it’s not a bad idea. My kids did not attend daycare when they were babies. I like glass because it’s healthier and they actually get clean in the dishwasher. After a while the plastic bottles will discolor.

interesting- i exclusively pumped for 6 months-- even shaking it wouldn't distribute the fat but i also didn't find the warmer to be that effortful that i've never understand this warning that it is hard-- it takes like 1 minute to warm it up

It's so much easier when you're out and about. Ever have a baby wake up on the metro, for example?

Don't go all in on any particular bottle because you never know what your kid will go for. My son never took to the Philips Avent but liked the Como Tomos.

Both. Obviously you have to thaw frozen breastmilk but I never warmed anything cold.
