What would you do?

I was waiting for a weight machine at the gym today and the person on the weight machine was taking a phone call while just sitting on the machine (not exercising). I waited for a while and decided to circle back after other machines. After using all the other machines (50 minutes later), she was still just sitting on the machine using her phone. Should I have just interrupted her?

"Excuse me, could I use this?"

People who take phone calls at the gym are the worst. Take it outside!

I would have waited about 60 seconds, and then asked to use the machine.

You should have absolutely asked. I can’t stand that. I am petty so if I see that I go ask even if I do not need to use that particular machine. I just cant tolerate entitled, inconsiderate people. They normally give you a dirty look and then leave.

50 minutes!! That's ridiculous. Zero minutes should be spent on a phone call while holding up a machine. As PP said, take that outside.

I ask immediately if I can work in. That tells me if they are serious or not.

This. I would apologize profusely for interrupting probably while pointing around the person at the machine. Gets my point across without me looking like the bad guy.

Yes. You should have interrupted her immediately. “May I use this machine please?”

This is what I would have done. People are have no regard for others.

I also do this when people are doing stupid things like using a piece of equipment just to hold their phone or water bottle.

This is why more places aside from schools should use those phone pouches.

Our gym has a small couch and two chairs (all can be wiped down) between the two major work out areas. Guests are to take breaks and calls there. Still it's annoying as hell when people just sit at machines. I left early yesterday as I was sick of repeatedly waiting. Rest between sets 60 seconds max. Otherwise move on.

I use my phone (on silent or with earbuds) to listen to music, text, read, etc. Phones are fine, as long as they're SILENT! And you're not just sitting on a machine doing nothing wasting everyone's time.
