We are going to Quebec City (staying in Old Quebec) at the end of November. Any recommendations for things to do? Places to eat? Thank you!

Hotel 71 is excellent! Go to the Christmas market, check out Notre Dame cathedral, and ride the ferry and funicular. Cafe La Maison Smith is excellent for coffee and pastries. Try as many different flavors of macarons as you can.

And I see it will be freezing when you’re there. And the walk from old Quebec is nothing special. Definitely Uber. Or save for summer. Both places have very limited indoor seating.

Please be prepared for very cold, windy weather. I know that sounds obvious, but it was more windy and biting than we thought it would be, given that it was early November. That being said, I hope you have a lovely time and agree with the PP’s recommendations.

We loved the fort, the museum of fine art, trying different poutine places, walking the Old City including the church where the finale of Catch Me If You Can was filmed, the Christmas market and ice slide. Such a lovely place to spend a few days.

We were there the past two summers, and I never knew that the movie was filmed there. Yet I brlieve i know exactly what church it was filmed at. Was it in the lower old city?

It is! There’s usually a Christmas tree there too during the winter months.

I second everything people already said.
Ciel! Bistro bar has a revolving restaurant with a gorgeous view.

For poutine le Chic Shack was very good, they have normal and specialty poutines (braised beef, smoked...) really nice young waiters too.

If interested in churches, this is very cool, one of the few Holy Doors in the world and closing in December: https://www.quebec-cite.com/en/what-to-do-quebec-city/holy-door.

Shadows on the Rock by Willa Cather is a good book to read before you go. It made everything come to life a bit more for me as it is fiction, but about the history of old Quebec. I recognized names and landmarks from the book while walking around.

NP here. I am thinking of going for the week before Christmas...but worried about how miserable the cold will be.

They have Christmas markets, but will it be too bitter to enjoy them?

No, but 1. the Christmas markets aren't *that* amazing if you have been to European ones. And beware the slide will not be open if it is not full on snowing.
