Empathy signs and kidnapped Israeli flyers

Anonymous
After Hamas stormed Israel last year, people went around putting up flyers with pictures of Israeli's saying "Kidnapped", stuck them in paper protectors and hung them super high on poles in Bethesda and Montgomery County. The rain has ruined them and they need to be removed. It's like people put up "lost dog" posts and leave them up for years, and you feel like a jerk taking them down.

Who's responsible for these flyers? I am not sure if it's a 311 request, PEPCO, or the jerks who put them up super high so you need a ladder to remove them.

Strongly suspect whoever put them up will not remove them. Not sure the people who put them up there are "jerks," the reason they were put up so high is because other people kept taking them down.

If you want them removed, my advice would be to either find a way to remove them yourself or call 311 about them.

They will eventually fall like all the other signs before them.

I believe there are a number of kidnapped Americans still held in Gaza.

What’s the point of putting up these signs? Do they thing the kidnapped victims will end up in Bethesda?

They want to remind people that there are still people being held. They hope to keep people from seeing Israel as the aggressor.

When they put them up I think it made some sense to remind people that they were there and that we should be pressuring for their return. Almost a year later, I really doubt there’s anyone that thinks that pressure from people in MoCp is going to lead to any additional hostage releases. But gojng back and taking them down would be heartbreaking I’m sure.
I don’t think they will fall down naturally because they are wrapped many times around with pretty heavy plastic. The wood will rot away before that plastic does.

There are people living in the US that have family members still held hostage. It is probably a friend or family member of one of these people. I would be putting them up every too if my sibling or child was kidnapped by Hamas.

The Empathy signs and the people who put up fliers for either in support of Israel or for Palestinians are a set of circles that do not overlap. The Empathy signs have been progressively placed for going over a decade back and are all over the place.

OK but the signs are bleeding ink - you can't read any of them. They've obviously been abandoned.

Just like the kidnapped Israelis and Americans, thanks Bibi.

Their are people living in the US who have family members killed by the IDF and settlers. You don't see them spreading litter to gain sympathy

But what about the hostages? (This thread is about the hostages, by the way).

Don't you dare touch them, OP. They're not hurting you. Have some common decency and wait for them to come down by themselves, or for county workers to take them down.

- not a fan of Israel and Hamas war crimes, but much respect for all the hostages and victims of this nightmare conflict.
