At what age did you change from giving DC their nightly bath/shower to having them take their bath/shower (mostly) on their own ?
Kindergarten we switched to having them actually do their own soap and shampoo/conditioner and we checked and rinsed off, 2nd grade we switched to independent showers. I do still check their hair before they rinse off (3rd & 5th) though because they are both prone to leaving conditioner in there.

I still have to help with baths to make sure soap is completely out at 8 almost 9. She takes showers by herself nightly though since 7.
Mine took them mostly by themselves at 7. I still have to check hair, though. I probably wouldn’t need to if they had short hair, though.
Like a PP our kids started taking showers alone around age 6.
Kindergarten for my son. I had to help with my daughter’s hair until closer to 8, she has so much of it (just like mine) that she had to learn to be diligent to get all the product out.
Two kids started showering alone at 5, the other at 6. Daughter with vey thick long hair sometimes needed rinse checks until 8 ish? Gave them baths until about 7.

DD has longish hair so I still help with shampoo and conditioner at 7. She rinses it out but I put it in and make sure she gets it all when she rinses. I also apply conditioner and then pull a wide tooth comb through it before she rinses because this makes her hair significantly more manageable.
She does pretty much everything else. I've tried to drop the rope on her hair a couple times but she just does not get it all so I'm back in there and talking through it and reminding her how to use her hands to make sure it's all rinsed and how to make sure it all gets washed. I'm hoping by 8 or 9. |
3, shower. I consider the ability to take a shower on one's own a basic skill like toileting. |
7.5/8 for my DS. DD is newly 7 and has been able to wash her body since 6, but still needs help with her hair.
