Usa swimming members? |
No, but swimmers need official USA swim times so coaches can evaluate their performance. |
Thanks!! |
can you actually participate in meets if you are not usa swimming members? |
OP that’s what I was asking. |
No - you have to be a USA swimming member to participate in meets. At least that's what we were told. |
You don't, though. International students do not join USA swimming when they arrive. If they did, they could not represent their home country internationallly. |
I think you mainly have to swim in a valid meet. If somebody is a great swimmer and only swims in HS then coaches will use that time. In America, a lot of clubs mainly swim USA-sanctioned meets, BUT there are also AAU meets which are not really as recognized in the swimming community. |
I think you are answering a different question. I think OP is asking about what a kid needs to participate in meets for a college club team - this is different than the school's/athletic department's team for which swimmers are recruited. I do not have an answer re: club swimming. However, people are correct swimmers do not have to be members of USAS to participate in NCAA meets (international swimmers are the prime example). Many kids will keep their USAS membership in order to compete in those meets (US Open for example). |
i can confirm that you don't have to be usa swim member for club swimming.
My DC's usa swimming membership expired and he can still swim club meets. |
College club meets (meaning a club swimming team versus a varsity team) would be allowed without at USA Swimming membership. NCAA swimming meets also.
Potomac Valley or other LSC meets would NOT be allowed without a USA Swimming membership. |
I imagine there is an insurance component to some of this? When I did Masters (purely recreationally), the group required an active USA Swimming membership. |
I have two college club swimmers. They are not registered in USA swimming (as they have been for the last 12y), but are now registered in CCS (College Club Swimming.)
