I am stuck in staff attorney hell at a firm and looking for a way out. Ideally I would get hired as an associate at my firm or some other firm and move up from there, but those opportunities are tough to come by and I keep getting older. I occasionally see Conflicts Attorney jobs at large firms and wonder about them -- I know at one firm I used to work at, their Conflicts Atty was where they put the occasional associate who they liked working with but wasn't ever going to make partner, and so didn't have to fire/let go. But is Conflicts Attorney it's own inner circle of hell? Seems like you're just negotiating between different very important partners re who was going to be allowed to bring in new business that might conflict with existing business?
Does anyone here do this, or know someone who does, and do they like it? Does it interrupt your weekends with weird new business checks that have to be conducted? Thanks in advance!
