Former RNC chair and Bush Campaign chief comes out

Well, good for him. It's not easy.

Given his post and the role he played within the party, I guess he'll have a lot to work out, either with a minister or in therapy. He really did preside over some seriously anti-gay politics.

I love Ed Gillespie's take: "it is significant that a former chairman of the Republiucan National Committe is openly gay and that he is supportive of gay marriage." Nice spin, Ed! Are you going to use that on the gay republican recruiting brochure? Look how high you can go in the party as long as no one can confirm that you are gay?

And of course now that he is out, he is going to figure out why there is not a common gay-conservative alliance against muslim fundamentalism, as the theoretical threat of the Taliban yields to the everyday discrimination he's going to see in his own backyard.

Still, all that aside. Good for him. He took one huge step toward becoming himself.

FWIW that would probably be his rabbi. On the bright side, as a Baltimore Jew, he is probably already used to having people close to him asking him what the heck he's doing in the Republican Party.
