Older teens and laser hair removal

My dd has naturally pretty hairy legs. She has to shave every other day which she hates (she runs cross country and then track so she is always in shorts) Would you pay for laser hair removal to make her life easier? She is a senior.

I would. I’m 40 and doing it now and regretting the nearly 30 years I’ve been shaving!

I was thinking the same thing, OP. I have a Braun IPL that I use for myself. Maybe she could use it too? Not sure it would work on her skin tone, though - she's darker than I am.

100% woukd! Just know that she will have to get touchups and it’s not completely permanent, but it is a game changer. I used to have to shave every day and get a ton of ingrown hairs with that raspberry look when I don’t shave. I always hated my legs before I got laser! Hair still grows back but it’s about 75% less and I really only need to shave once a week. It’s been incredible, I really wish I had done this in my late/early 20s as opposed to my 40s!

Yes, my thinking was that if she does it younger then she enjoys the benefit/ease of it long term. How expensive and time consuming was the process? As in how long are the sessions, how close together do they need to be...?

I totally would support this and pay if she had dark hair/light complexion.

I got a deal on GroupOn and it wasn't that expensive. You do need to schedule and attend each of ~6-8 sessions about 6 weeks apart, so choose a location that is convenient. I'd expect her to eventually want touch up sessions as she has hormonal changes, but no reason not to get the benefit now.

It's been two years since I had it done and I would like to go back for touch up sessions before next summer, but it's not that expensive if you book a package through an online deal.

A session is about 15 minutes. Pretty quick.

Wax. I only need to wax once a month.

Agree. I would totally pay for my daughter to get laser hair removal. I’ve suggested it to my teen daughter, but she isn’t interested at this point.

Leg sessions are longer, especially if doing full leg. Probably around 30 min, 20 if doing just lower leg. She’ll need at least 5 sessions, but may need up to 8. You get them 4-6 weeks apart.

NP. What's a ballpark price for something like this? Teen DD has been thinking about it as well.

Do your research. I don't think it is good for people with darker skin shades.

Once you know if your DD's skin color is a candidate, then try the Braun IPL that the PP recommended first.

Laser is painful, at least for me. But well worth it.

DD gets herself waxed every 1 to 2 months (incl brazilian), but it adds up.

I would pay for laser, OP.

I agreed to it for my DD when she was a mid teen. I have a long term relationship with a dermatologist whose office I trust and I took her there. She did 4 sessions and she is very happy with the results. To me this wasn't a very big deal and we could afford it.

I’m ideal for the home IPL (pale with dark hair) and had really minimal results with it. Once I tried real laser, magic after just a session or two. I did the full series, as it’s one cost, but I never shaved after the second visit.

They do have new lasers that work on all skin tones, but you still need dark hair. I thought laser really hurt! I’d choose a center with built in cooling spray with the laser, made a huge difference.

I pay 300 dollars a session by a board certified dermatologist, takes 6-8 sessions per area so between $1800-2400.
