NWEA MAP "Enhanced Item Selection Algorithm"

NWEA MAP "Enhanced Item Selection Algorithm"

MAP test ia changing its "item selection algorithm" to prefer harder grad-level items over easier above-geade-level items for.hifh performers, and vice versa for low performers.

Scores are mostly stable, but scoers are compressed at extreme percentiles (99 and 1). There's a published concordance chart to covert between old and new scores.

Has your school made any notifications about this change?

Are your kids noticing the test seeming different this year? (More familiar but hard content vs content they've never seen before?)

Surprise score changes?

Interesting, and thanks for the pointer, but note that the NWEA MAP never claimed any accuracy above the 97.5% percentile (source: personal communication with NWEA researcher).
It looks like the method is not rolled out in VA (yet?)

I'm also curious about how it relates to the prior practice of separating K-5 and K6+ in Math; has this been abandoned?
