First tablet for preschooler?

Anonymous
What tablet are people buying for their preschoolers today? Looking for something sturdy, hopefully spill proof, with long battery and enough memory for long road trips?

Today, most people realize that tablets are the worst thing you can buy for a preschooler. Signed, mom of a third grader without a tablet, who frequently did 12 hour road trips. ( we did use this, but without a tablet obv - https://www.amazon.com/EcoFantasy-Kids-Travel-Play-Tray/dp/B07FP33YFB/ref=asc_df_B07FP33YFB/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693129867821&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17974214835258276023&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007528&hvtargid=pla-1461431658608&psc=1&mcid=b969b8bf081b34309ace2c1af5ba98dc)

We used a Kindle Fire (and still do at age 8). We just put it away when we're not traveling, and it's never been a problem.

Nothing!!

I wish we waited longer.

Really hoping this is a troll.

Don't be that parent, OP. This is a very dumb idea.

We just load up my iPad with movies for flights. She is not allowed independent access to it.

I just have my kids listen to audiobooks and look out the window. No need for a tablet.

i bought a used, refurbished ipad with cellular capabilities and a protective carrying case (with a plastic cover over the screen itself, and a kickstand--very important for preschoolers!!)

Definitely get headphones, too, we got some at target.

Don't listen to the haters; an ipad has been one of the best parenting purchases I've ever made.

BTW Apple's parental controls are absolute garbage. We block Youtube bc it is the actual cesspool of the internet with addictive videos. Good apps are pbs kids video and pbs kids games, netflix, and disney+.

Yeah I knew someone who got her preschooler an iPad “just for plane trips” but the dad whips it out whenever he whines. The toddler literally said “mommy is mean daddy is nice”

IF that's the case, can you explain to me the didactic purpose of having ipads in the classrooms starting in kindergarten? We give parents really mixed messages about screens--"screens are bad!" but then the school sends every kid home with an ipad or a chromebook. So what's wrong with a home ipad vs a school ipad?

Because having iPads in the classroom is not up to the teacher…..
