Nursing home excessive charges

Has anyone ever fought these? Elderly parents nursing home nickle and dimed, and then had the nerve to try to hold our 2k security deposit upon move out, claiming the carpet was damaged.

It doesn't hurt to call Accounts Receivable at the nursing home and see what they say.

It’s not a/R. It’s another rep but not sure what next steps would be. What snakes

Were there accidents or spills on the carpet? I would be shocked if not.

Nope. Just some pilling bc the carpet was super cheap

Having investigated various living options for my elderly parents, it seems that many places are financially structured this way - every little thing is an additional charge. One of the benefits to the most expensive facility we toured was that more of these costs (like Depends) were included so I didn’t think that the overall cost would have been that different (being that my dad is incontinent and goes through a lot of Depends)

It’s likely that whomever signed the contract upon admission agreed to these terms. Doubt you have much of a case.

Totally agree on this overall. But imo, pretty much every place has add ons.. it’s part of their model and obviously extra services require extra staff, extra goods, etc. So I doubt you’ll find any place where it’s totally all in.

As far as the deposit, I pointed out to them that under local law, wear and tear is not a deductible expense. And I won. They just refunded almost the full deposit. Took out less than 10 dollars.
