Most comfortable heels (or not) I can wear with a dress at cocktail attire event

Anonymous
Hello. I need to attend this event for work. Even though the invitation says cocktail, people are often very dressed up. I wore Margaux heels last year and they absolutely killed my feet and knees. So I am perhaps a lost cause. But I need to look appropriately attired for this event. Age 50. Not opposed to flatter shoes as long as they are “cocktail.” Appreciate the help.

What are you wearing besides the shoes?

I bought these for a wedding where I was a bridesmaid and was up and about all day and they are pretty comfy and come in about a million colors:

Wear anything by those.

I would suggest flats as more cocktail appropriate than those.

Have you looked at the Everlane Day heel? I find them remarkably comfortable for heels. I’m 48 and thought I’d never wear heels again.

You have to determine what is wrong with your feet and knees that they were painful. I have hallux rigidus so arthritis in one toe from an injury when young, that looks like a bunion but I can wear shorter heels from a handful of European brands that have wider toe boxes and are made for women with bunions.

I can’t tell if you are looking for a conservative heel, or a party heel. If it’s more like a wedding cocktail attire, here’s a heel I bought last year and it worked out great:

I’m in my forties, feet get super sore and swollen if I stand on them all night, but I look great in heels. These were incredibly comfortable all night, and fairly innocuous looking.

OP I am tall, so if the heel height is about wanting to be taller and not just fashionable, ignore me please.

I’ve worn flats to almost every cocktail and formal event since I was 25. It’s always fine! Flats are appropriate. Just little plain flats, or sandals, or whatever.

I am a much happier, funnier, better listening conversationalist in flats. And I mean to take nothing away from women who do all that in heels. I’m genuinely happy for them. But if you’re not one, just wear flats! Barely anyone will even notice.

This. I’ve had good luck with pointy black Rothy’s. When worn with opaque black tights, they give a seamless line from leg to foot. No one will notice anything except your dress.

Velvet Mary Janes as a flat or with a low heel. F the opinion that you need a heel for a dressy outfit.

God the people on this forum are boring.

She’s 50, not 90. The platform is much more subtle than the pictures make it seem. They’re more comfortable than most of my flats and grandmas are reviewing them. It’s a great shoe for a short person like me.

Those are way too chunky for a cocktail event. I'd expect someone in their 20s to wear these at a backyard wedding. I would check out Stuart Weitzman or Bally, OP.
