When to practice

Anonymous
DS9 and DD5 loves to swim, but they are still in learning all stroke stages. The boy has soccer, and soccer classes. The girl has gymnastic and scout meet. They are taking swimming classes at goldfish, county and private coach. We could not find time to practice swimming on our own. Do your kids practice in weekday or weekend? Kids are not home till at earliest 6:30pm during workday, and we are out for activities on weekend.

Any problem is the coach comments DS9 has no strength in swimming. Any way for improvement?

How often are they swimming now? Sounds like they’re already in the pool at least twice a week. That should be enough to become proficient at this age if the instruction is decent. You might be able to find some kind of free swim time at a rec or community center, or family swim time at Goldfish, but it might not line up with when you’re available. Do NOT go into a lane during lap swim and use it to do swim lessons with your kids. Lap swim is for continuous back and forth for exercise.

Really the best thing would be summer swim team at a community pool next year. Practice is 5 days a week and you can go to the pool when it’s open to the community to work on things being learned at practice. It’s much harder during the school year because indoor pools have limited hours where the pool is open to the public, if any.
