I am a 45 yr old male. I never learnt how to swim. Given my back issues, I need to incorporate swimming in my workout routine. Where can I find good tutor that can teach me how to swim?

| Good for you! It's never too late to learn. Please check your local Y, Red Cross and dept of recreation in your area. You can also find private swim coaches online. |

What general area?
There's lots of strip mall learn to swim places as well as the ones named above. Some private lessons might give you a quicker start. |

If you Google "Chantilly swim lessons" there are quite a few options. If you don't want to wait for the county lessons to restart, you could try some private or small group lessons at one of the smaller swim schools.
Just like learning the piano, practice is key. You may learn to float and breath quickly, but to become proficient and swim laps comfortably, it is important to keep practicing. (Kids aren't quite as impatient as adults in this regard!). Be sure to get advice on some good goggles. If you wear glasses like me, you can get cheap OTC prescription goggles online (swimoutlet.com) that reduce the sense of disorientation of not being able to see! |
| There is a swimming forum under Sports. If you post there, you might get some instructor recommendations. |
| Try to learn in a pool where it’s shallow enough to stand up.. my university had 2 pools and one of them the lanes were much deeper. I definitely wouldn’t want to learn there. Ican swim but the one time I went in the deep pool it was sort of scary. |
