Ivy commitments

Anonymous
I know that the Texas and Floridas hand out commitments to their fastest swimmers in the fall of the kids’ junior year but wondering about Ivy timeline

I heard that they like to see some junior year grades so they wait until later (after first semester) to give out verbal commitments unless you’re Trials level

Is this true? TIA to anyone with experience on this

What was the source you heard this from?

For the Ivy, my DS did a pre-read in the summer before Senior year after junior year grades were available and got his offer in September senior year. OVs were in spring of Junior year (after coach looked at transcript, but no official pre-read until after OV). There may be exceptions for a top 5 swimmer.

D1 does commitments in Fall of kid's junior year, not just Texas and Florida.

Yes obviously but the fastest schools get the fastest kids first.

Many ivy swimmers commit fall of their junior year. It has gotten earlier especially for the top recruits.

They may get recruited but Ivys do not have scholarships so they do not give out offers.

our friend committed to H in spring of junior year.

Ivies can offer a roster spot during junior year but it is contingent on acceptance. pre reads are done summer before or early in senior year. The commitment announcements specifically talk about how the athlete is committed to the application process with the Ivy and they apply ED assuming a positive pre-read.

Are Ivies offering roster spots to students that don't qualify for admission? One would hope that they don't waste everyone's time and disadvantage their teams by doing so.
