| Which Magnatiles set should we get next after the basic 32-piece one? DC is 3. |
| Depends on what your kid is into. My son liked the one with the animals and we built so many zoos. |
|
Easy add: we like the little guys in the cars and make race tracks and ramps with the tiles. https://www.magnatiles.com/product/dashers-6-piece-set/Note: they now sell road pieces but we found it more fun to build our own ramps (and sometimes have htem fall down).
Also i really adore MagnaQuibix the little cubes. |
| I recently discovered they have mini ones that are great for travel or at restaurants. Different from what you asked but wanted to share! |
| Just get more basic sets. They’re branching out into more branded/themed sets now, but those don’t hold my kids’ interest the way the classic ones do. There’s a “house” set that includes stairs, which are fun, but the stickers that it comes with are a waste. |
Good to know! |
| Buy a giant Picasso set with people and card + the magnatiles set with ramps. My kids didn’t like any other variation of magnatiles. Ie the smaller 3d triangular ones or those FAO Schwartz castle ones etc. just Picasso and magnatiles. Oh and someone, forget the brand, makes those cubes magnates cut for when your DS is older |
totally agree! |
|
The mini ones are bad! BewRe. They don’t click together right.
These have been terrific. They are windows or doors, or you can just use them for building. https://www.picassotiles.com/products/picassotiles-42-piece-set-magnet-building-tiles-6-diff-shapes |

My 4 and 6yo kids love the squares. They build elaborate buildings many stories tall and almost never use the interesting pieces from the metropolis set other than the stairs. They love the big squares (4 normal tiles large), the ones with wheels, and the normal sized squares. I bought the 8 Piece Expansion Set of rectangles and squares when it used to be available. I wish I had bought more. The large squares help stabilize large buildings. Like this: https://strictlyforkidsstore.com/Magna-Tiles-Rectangles--8-Piece-Expansion-Set_p_31504.html
They also love the smaller rectangles you get with the magnatiles builder construction set. That set was also a hit. If you have a kid who likes vehicles, I recommend it. |
Agree with focusing on basic shapes and with getting some sort of wheeled vehicle. My 10 and 8 year olds still play with Magnatiles and whatever figurines they feel like that day and make elaborate towns. At their age it's all about having enough rectangles to complete the kids' visions. |
| The big car bases are good. The ones that are like big flat train cars. |
| I got a race car magna tile set to go with her basic and castle add on at 6. She still plays with it at 8.5! She loves building through and we have a large playroom. Also she mixes Lego sets and her horse and farm sets with them to create a huge city. It is actually cool! |
| We have hundreds of magnatiles 3 kids in. They really play with the classic sets the most. Picasso tiles are just as good as Magna Tiles in our experience. We have some other knock off brands as well which are all fine, but not as strong as Picasso or Magna Tile brands. |
| Got the Metropolis set and so far he likes it! |
