| Level II was explained to us as the normal differentiation that happened in any classroom. It didn't really do anything for us except have the student on the AAP radar. This potentially varies widely by school, though, so it's worth talking to your AART if you're interested. |

| My child gets Level II math - it's maybe one extra group a week and extra worksheets. I'm pretty pissed that she wasn't placed in LLIV for math. 99th everything in math, but 70s in language arts, so they said she doesn't belong in AAP and won't put her in advanced math. Stupid school. |

To be fair my dd is in level IV at an immersion school. All she is getting is additional worksheets. |

Usually people mean LIII when they discuss "advanced math." Both LIII and LIV start in 3rd. |

Math is technically not a part of AAP. Advanced Math is no level, it is Advanced Math. Advanced Math is taught to kids in LIV. Note that Math is not a part of AAP in MS, that is because Math is it’s own path. Advanced math is not LII or LIII, it is just Advanced Math.
Level II is normally extra worksheets and a separate grouping for the kids identified as LII. It is not much but if your kid is identified for LII services n K-2 it means they are on the AARTs radar as a kid who might need more advanced work. Some schools have LII pull outs but that seems to be rare. LIII is a seperate 1 hour a week pull out for kids in it. It uses a fair number of the LIV exercises and extensions during the pull out. It can be good if kids are pulled regularly and receive the full hour, or close to it minus transition time to and from the class. DS enjoyed the LIII pull outs. Kids can be in Advanced Math and LIII, those kids are normally likely to get into LIV if their parents reapply because they are in the math that is taught in LIV and they are receiving LIV extensions through LIII. |

My first grader is level II in math and reading and gets pulled out once a week by our AART teacher with a few others.
My third grader is level II math, but they said if there was such thing as level III for one subject he would be it. In order to be level III you have to be at the level for at least two subjects. He gets pulled once a week for Math by the AART and has different work in the classroom. |

At our ES (base is a center) in 2nd grade the AART uses weekly pull-outs for level II as a way to get to know kids who are likely going to be in-pool or apply for full-time AAP and to get work samples from them. A kid not in level II AAP will be given those another way, but it's helpful for level IV packet purposes to be in that level II group in 2nd. |
