| We got a very vague letter the other day saying that they are now going to base insurance premiums in part on your credit rating. And that your premiums may increase or decrease as a result. WTF?! Both my husband and I lost our jobs and are working and recovering now but our credit scores definitely suffered as a result. Are we now not going to be able to afford our home and auto insurance?? |
| We didn't get that letter yet. |
| We didn't get that letter either. |
| Haven't gotten that letter yet either. Try calling them to find out more info and how it will affect you personally. They have really great customer service in my experience. |

We received that letter too!
We thought USAA was supposed to be so solid and consistent…not like the other big insurance companies. USAA has changed, we've noticed, over the past few years. Not for the good. |
| We've haven't gotten the letter. |
| I got that notice from them at least 5 years ago. I think all insurance companies use your credit score if the state allows them to. |

We haven't gotten that letter, yet.
Some states are trying to change the laws, but currently I think insurance companies in most states can use your credit score to set your premiums based on the argument that credit score is a predictor for risk. I think an FTC study a few years ago found that credit scores can effectively predict the number and cost of auto insurance claims filed by people. |
| We never received that either... |
| Didn't get that letter - how long have you been a member? |
| What state are you in, OP? |
|
Shoot! OP I am in the exact same situation and we have been digging out for months (sadly it will take years). I did not see this letter yet. But I am going to call - thanks for the heads up.
I seriously LOVE USAA. I hope this does not tarnish my image of them. |
| OP here - I'm in VA and have been a member for probably 15 years. Oh and also - a few months back they just randomly closed my credit card with them. It was a small balance but I had literally never been so much as late with a payment ever with that or any other USAA account. But apparently they do random reevaluations of whether you're worthy and sometimes just deem you're not. So this makes me really nervous. It just seems like they're now all about figuring out how to kick you when you're down. |
| OP: I find this really odd given my 20+ years with USAA. I would call them pronto and ask them what is up with the letter and also the closing of my account. Could you be a victim of fraud and not know it? |
I agree. This doesn't sound like them at all. Please call! |
