OP - how do you feel about your school?

We are at Visi. We like:

1) small class sizes
2) sense of community
3) organization
4) great communication with parents
5) amount of extracurricular activities
6) gorgeous campus
7) amazing school spirit

Don't like:

1) homework load and number of weekly quizzes and tests - this school is not for the weak😩
2) hot lunch is mid
3) carpool line is crowed, disorganized and annoying

Holy Cross

The community, small class size, teachers and instruction, how empowered my daughter is feeling

Too many communication platforms (blackbaud tuition, schoology, parent portal, magnus health, etc.) and emails.

About 1-2. Don't really know since it's block schedule and girls have Tartan Time to do it.

She loves it! Best decision we made.

The hot lunch isn't that great. Mid equals average.

Good Counsel:

Pros:
Kid likes it
Kid is having fun
Broad amount of extracurricular activities
Sports

Cons:
School is too big
Seems like they admit in a broad range of people/academics
Not as personalized as I would like

School- Baltimore Private

Like- Class size, curriculum, communication, ECs, organization, professional skill development opportunities, love of learning culture

Dislike- Food, amount of homework, too many parent events, too dressy for my liking.

With taking full advantage of study hall, on some nights homework is still 1hr+. For context though, kiddo has straight As and is a little obsessive.

With that being said, I can see how culture might influence this and become problematic.

DS is loving school. Each day comes home and is so excited to share all of the new things he's learning or gets to experience.

Socially it's been a great fit too. DS is on the non-sporty side, but still found a great intramural and a great group of kids.

Small class sizes, a lot of courses offered, really responsive and supportive admin, great teachers, nice kids, focus on building character, enough kids so that everyone can find their niche, and amazing academic support program

What you don't
No athletic fields
Lunch is pricey

How much HW a night on average
My kid is a fast worker and has a study hall, so he spends about 30 min at home.

How is your kid liking it?
He's loving it! He is not particularly friendly or outgoing, but he signed up immediately to host prospective students.

Bishop Ireton

Like: Class sizes are small, most of the teachers are good, homework portal is nice, friendly kids for the most part

Dislike: sports facilities, social divide between Catholic school kids and non-Catholic sports recruits

HW: 1-2 hrs per night in all honors

Kid loves it and feels it was a great choice.

School outside of DC

What we love:
It's a good fit socially for both our DDs.
It's not super big but also not super small.
Lots of ECs.

About 1-2 hr of HW a day but they have study hall and the weekend to do it.

What we don't like:
The long car line
It's hard to balance sports, a job, driving lessons, and fine arts activities. My oldest wants to do everything. At the school my kids were at previously it was easier to balance fine arts and sports because sports weren't double-blocked.
